I was looking for a curiosity for the weekly theme, it’s not easy to give a title, but it is PAINT WITH UNUSUAL PAINT
After the first two weeks, ‘hard themes’ this will be so fun to read and I encourage you to try as much as you can!
Let’s look around in the kitchen! There are many experimental painters in the world who do not paint in the traditional sense, but with different foods.
Just look around in your kitchen to see what else you haven’t used 🙂 or maybe nobody else.
Here’s a summary from the wide world without the need for completeness:
- coffee
- tee
- icecream
- pizza
- wine
- tomato sauce
- candle flame, soot
- toothepaste
- blood
- jam
- medicated capsules
- toast
This is choctone scale, a tasty version of the Pantone scale
Perhaps the most widespread among the extra ingredients, maybe because many people are drinking coffee 🙂 and it is on hand.
The darkness of coffee ink can be controlled by the amount of water added to nescafe.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR COFFEE PAINT?
I mix three doses:
for the dark colour, little water should be ca 1 teaspoon of coffee with a spoonful of water,
middle tone: 1 spoon of coffee with 2 spoons of water,
the lightest one with 1 coffee and more water.
EXPERIENCE:
It is so easy even to do it with kids. As it dries slower than watercolors and a little stickier. When you go back to a part that already painted it is more soluble than watercolors.
The first time I tried to paint with coffee was in 2015. In my ‘summer kids’ camp, on the first day, we went through the colors on the colour wheel, what they could or should be mixing … but on the second day we looked at how can we use different shades of one single colour. Children used it very cleverly, though as it was a bit harder to treat it than a watercolor as it stickies, but it seemed like a child’s play.

30 years old Italian painter paints not only with coffee but with chocolade and tomato sauce
HOW TO MAKE TEA PAINTS?
Boil water and put 2 filters of tea in a mug. I suggest you use black tea or English breakfast tea or earl grey because they has stronger color. (fruit tea gives reddish shades, green tea gives green – it’s worth trying.)
Pour the water on the filters to cover, wait about 5 minutes, push the filters to release their natural pigments and get a darker toner. You’ll water this dark shade afterwards to get more and more lighter shades. Put out of it in a small bowl, with 2-3 spoons on your palette – this will be the dark ink. Add a little water to the next dose. So create at least 3 or more shades just like coffee.
It is worthwhile to pull a test line with all the nuances to see what shades you created.

For 12 years he has been painting with hot drinks like coffee and tea. All of his paintings are made in months and he gets his tea from all over the world.
He likes to paint in rather larger in size because it says it is less difficult than to keep smaller parts under control.

The same technil I use for my batik paintings but she use one colour the wine and she get monocrom paintings like if you use only one colour with different shades.
That is, it covers the light parts with paraffin, then paints with red wine and then paraffin that you want to keep in the color you painted, and then another layer of red wine ……. and so on until you have a picture.

Steve Spazuk paints with fire (soot)
He paints with smoke, portraits and birds. Paint with candle and adjust the soot with feather.

Vincent Castiglia use his own blood
New York City painter (tattoo artist) underdraws with pen or graphite his pictures and paints with his own blood. His pictures are being prepared for several months and once he almost pays for it with his life.

You may remember that I shared 2 videos for mother’s day where I paint with unusual ‘paint’ frosen blueberry and frosen sourcherry juice.
It was interesting as blueberry first was reddish and when it dried its colour changed to blue, but it happened only in one paper and on the other paper it was different colour.
I suggest you to try. Make a cake and use the juice when it is melt.
Btw here is the easy recipe for the cake:
- 1 cup of kefír or yogurt (140gr)
- 1 cup (use the same of yogurt cup) sunflower oil
- 2 cup sugar
- 3 cup flour
- 4 pieces eggs
- 1 baking powder
- 1 vanilin sugar
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel (or just add lemon juice)
- 500gr fruit ( blueberry or cherry or both)
The flour is mixed with sugar, baking powder, vanilla sugar. Add the kefir, eggs and then the oil,
and stir until lump-free. Put it into a baking mold, add the fruit to the top and bake in 180 C about 30 minutes.If it is brown, prick the cookie with a meat needle or fork, if the dough sticks to it, we can let it fry a little more.
This is not a healty one (because of the sugar and the flour) but if you change the ingredients to healthy like almond/coconut flour and the sugar to xylit it can be better for your health.
we usually do not use flour and sugar as my son cannot eat it. In that case we split the eggs and make cream from the eggswhite before stir together
How great when the girls are helping:
While it is in the owen paint a rose or any flower with the juice.
Then eat your cookies.

Supplies:
- different paper both are 300gr but ( one in is ring binder notebook the other is a block glued on 4 side) try different paper it behaves differently

First of all I want to tell you that painting a self portrait is not easy. Most of us never watch or examine herself so long and usually we are not happy what the mirror shows. 🙂
BUT although it is hard to be with ourself it is a great task for our soul too.
I made 7 selfportrait 2 years ago and wasn’t happy with the results at all.
I was preparing for the Make Create Express 2020 where I was invited. I made 2 lessons a portrait with 2 colours and a selfportrait and additional videos.
I made these 2 lessons for it
and in the free weekend these paintings were born
Don’t ask me why I wanted to make self-portrait to there but I insisted on it, although I wasn’t happy with my self portrait 🙂

This year I was also invited to MAKE CREATE EXPRESS 22-23 and I made colourful acryllic paintings:

Really interesting how the technic and the ratio between brush and palette knife are changing.

Supplies:
- 18x24cm 300gr aquarell paper
- nescafe or coffee (without sugar and milk)
- brushes small and large (2, 3,, 6 any you have)
USE A PHOTO OF YOURSELF!

- I used the artutor grid maker program to make grid for my reference photo,
- to draw it easily to my paper (in the warm-up lesson I write you about how to make underdrawing and how to make grid for a photo) and
- with photoshop ( a graphical program I made a black and white picture and I added 3 butterflies to the picture.
- With mobile phone you can make easily b/w from your photo and
- add some saturation to it if needed to see better the shadows and highlights
Please be brave and paint your self portrait. Don’t judge yourself or your painting. I encourage you to go through the process.
It is not just to try a new material but also a practice for your soul!
Let off your expectation, who cares the end results 🙂 As I see my paintings it is full of mistakes what I usually never do.
It is a little soulwork too.
