Warm welcome to the week of POPPIES

 

This flower is also present in our garden thanks to the grandmother who has brought a plant that has not only a number of petal leaves but also several rows of petals. My mom’s garden which is next to us, she didn’t plant them but every year if she doesn’t cut the grass immediately, it blossoms nicely as if on the field.

It happened at the beginning of June 2012, I went back to the garden which wasn’t overly cared for at that time and I found a pink “poppy”, I was delighted with what a miracle happened. Then the “smarter friends” said that is garden poppy (Papaver somniferum) which is good for poppy seed roll. But look at how similar it is.

And now that I have looked better, the similarity is not a coincidence, because there are lots of variety of poppies. Interesting.

About Poppies shortly:

A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae of the family Papaveraceae. Poppies are herbaceous plants, often grown for their colourful flowers. One species of poppy, Papaver somniferum, is the source of the narcotic drug opium which contains powerful medicinal alkaloids such as morphine and has been used since ancient times as an analgesic and narcotic medicinal and recreational drug. It also produces edible seeds. Following the trench warfare in the poppy fields of Flanders during World War I, poppies have become a symbol of remembrance of soldiers who have died during wartime.

Poppies are herbaceous annual, biennial or short-lived perennial plants. Some species are monocarpic, dying after flowering. Poppies can be over a metre tall with flowers up to 15 centimetres across. Flowers of species (not cultivars) have 4 to 6 petals, many stamens forming a conspicuous whorl in the center of the flower and an ovary of from 2 to many fused carpels. The petals are showy, may be of almost any color and some have markings. The petals are crumpled in the bud and as blooming finishes, the petals often lie flat before falling away. In the temperate zones, poppies bloom from spring into early summer. Most species secrete latex when injured. Bees use poppies as a pollen source. The pollen of the oriental poppy, Papaver orientale, is dark blue, that of the field or corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is grey to dark green. The opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, grows wild in eastern and southern Asia, and South Eastern Europe. It is believed that it originated in the Mediterranean region.

Poppies good for:

It is unsuitable for cut flowers because cutting from the sterm it is withering very quickly, and its petals are dropped. Its core is used for flavoring cakes and salads, making salad oil. Its leaves are eaten raw or cooked (like spinach), but only before the flower buds develop. Its petals are used for making red food dyes, for making syrups. They used to color wine too.

In children, a fresh drive can cause poisoning!

Healing, collection:

Papaveris rhoeados flos is a good cough suppressant and has a mild soothing effect, it is used for throat rinsing and against sleep disorders.

The seeds, leaves and open petals of the plant are collected from May to August, which requires great attention: the petals should not be crushed because they lose their color and become black spots. Dried in a thin layer, dried in a non sunny place. During drying, the petals lose their bright red color and become purple.

In 2008 my very first acryl picture was 30x40x5cm and they bought it in online, maybe it started me to paint: (No008001 Fleur) Don’t look at the girl very much, it was my first painting, since then I have developed a lot. but the flower I still love it.

The poppy is an eternal painting theme, partly because of the color of the red, on the other hand, because it is not as complicated as the Iris, so maybe you will have more fun.

As we walked between the man heighed Poppies (Pavots), he tried to grasp his fragility and his transience, so I think it’s a cool idea, it’s a pity that we can’t see it live.

Use your non-dominant hand to draw with the pen. No need to be perfect at all!!!!Then paint it loosely

  ACRYL IN WATERCOLOUR STYLE

A lovely woman asked if she can make my course with acryl, and I made this video for her to show how can she use acryl in watercolour style.

The only difference that if it dries it is no longer diluted and mix colour on paper. So I decided to share this video with you too

I made the underpainting with aquarelle pencil, which is not everytime is a good choice. I made this video in 2017, interesting to see the difference. Everybody is improving 🙂  Funny that someone bought this painting during my exhibition that year.
