Our week theme is as we call it in hungarian LIZIKE
Eustoma grandiflorum (Lisianthus russellianum)
I painted as a present these flowers in 2013, but I had not too much time, so I painted these from my imagination.
Now we will paint the third one easy and loose.
I wanted to name it and someone said it is a WINDFLOWER/ANEMONA, but now I know it is a LISIANTHUS. Totally different flower.
Interesting that I never see it in real, but something in our head that is real 🙂
When my middle daughter farewell ceremony was at primary school, she received these flowers from her friend.
Lisianthus (Eustoma russellianum) offen referred to anemona by mistake.
Imagine that I have received a colorful Lisianthus bouquet last August from my hubby.
It is interesting that he bever bring flowers (neither for Valentines day nor for my Nameday) yes and he still lives with me for 30 years HAHA who knows why?
So my first reaction was: What did you do?
He said nothing just and old ‘granny’ sold on the street and he thought that I would be happy with it.
Yes, I was so happy that I was immediately inspired to make a lesson for the ‘YEAR IN COLOR 21/22’ SUMMIT that was just due.
Now you know how things works by me :), there is synchronicity or I could call it angels whispering and giving ideas.
Shortly by Lisianthus
Its 40 cm tall leaves are speary. It is blooming in between June to August. Purple, white, pink and blue. It needs a bright sunny spot. It is lovely as potted and cutted flower
- Size: 0 – 40 cm
- Blooming: Június-Augusztus.
- Colour of the flower: Purple, white, pink and blue.
- Height: 20-40 cm
- Care: It is sensitive to over watering.
- Use: potted and cutted flower
- Soil: It requires neutral soil.
Background
Originally, Lisianthus was found growing wild in North America and Mexico. The plants natural habitat there is in prairies and riverbeds.
The cultivated version with the botanical name of Eustoma russellianum has existed since the 1930s and is a direct descendant of the American ‘prairie gentian’.
Single-flowered and double-flowered varieties are cultivated in the Netherlands. There are numerous beautiful varieties available and new varieties appear on the market each year. Scroll down for the varieties.
The majority of the cultivated Lisianthus is exported, with the major export markets being Germany, Russia, France, Italy and the UK.
Year-round availability
Lisianthus can be cultivated all year round, and so enjoys year-round availability. The plant develops from a cutting into a flower in ten to twelve weeks.
Care 
How to keep your Lisianthus fresh
Despite its fine, almost fragile beauty, Lisianthus is a strong flower with a vase life that is much longer than you might expect! Here are some tips to help keep your flowers looking fresh and beautiful.
- Use a clean vase and clean water. Insufficiently clean vases contain bacteria that can have a negative effect on the vase life of the flowers.
- Always add cut flower food. This will extend vase life by at least a week.
- To prevent bacteria formation, strip the stems well under the waterline, and make sure that no leaves hang in the water.
- Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures. Placing the vase in a cool place will extend the vase life of the flowers.
- Avoid wide temperature fluctuations and draughts that could otherwise cause botrytis (grey mould). Lisianthus is susceptible to botrytis infection.
- Carefully check the stage of maturity when purchasing Lisianthus. The stem is mature enough if at least two blooms are open and well coloured. Immature stems will fail to open properly in the vase. Your quality florist will ensure that you purchase good stems.

Orange: Warmth, Wealth, Extrovert, (Dutch) Royal family, Strength, Optimism, Fun, Sportsmanship, Vitality
Blue: Divinity, Infinity, Spirituality, Loyalty, Sincerity, Peace, Clean, Sadness
Magenta: Exuberant, Exciting, Shocking, Grateful, Initiative
Purple: Royalty, Sensuality, Decadence, Nobility, Wisdom, Passion, Originality, Spirituality and respect
Green: Nature, Camouflage, Emotions, Health, New life, Harmony, Safety, Balance
Although we use minimum 300gr watercolour paperit happens that the paper will be wavy at the end
because of the water if we don’t stretch the paper on a board
To avoid the paper from wave, you can
1, use aquarelle block which is qlues on 4 size (see it the first lesson)
2 strech the paper on board
3 OR Don’t worry this is my method to make it flat
(instead heavy glass you can put an other paper on it and a heavy book to the top)

When my little daughter finished chinese-hungarian elementary school and I have painted 10 farewell cards to the teachers.
This is no 1
easy and loose less than 5 minutes each.

- 17,5×25 cm folded in half 300gr aquarelle paper I paint on the 12,5×170,5 cm side (the original paper is 70×100 cut in half and half 35×50 and half 35×25 and half 17,5×25 I receive 16 pieces from a sheet)
- aquarelle paint ( violet, violetrose, magenta, green, yellow, orange)
- waterproof inkpen (I have Pigma Micron)
